Hacker Attack on the IT Systems of the University of Erfurt

The University of Erfurt was the victim of an IT attack by the hacker group xx. It was detected by the university on xx. As a result, servers in the centrally managed Windows environment were shut down as a precautionary measure for security reasons. Since then, IT services at the entire university have been restricted. Services such as xx are affected. In addition, there is no access to the e-mail service. We are currently working on the restoration.

The University of Erfurt has convened a crisis team under the leadership of the President and engaged an IT crisis service provider recommended by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) to assist with the investigation (so-called "forensics") and management of the IT security incident.

The university management has also called in the police and the public prosecutor's office, which has begun its investigation and is assisting in the clarification/prosecution of the IT attack.

As part of the forensic investigation, it was possible to prove that .... // After an initial intensive analysis, we were unable to detect any data leakage. For security reasons, we will nevertheless reset all passwords. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
